Overview

Murdoch University is a dynamic, modern university with a national reputation for excellence in teaching, research and student satisfaction, paying particular attention to quality teaching. The University was named after Australian academic and essayist, Sir Walter Murdoch, who embodied these characteristics. Murdoch remains one of the leading research universities in Australia, ranking in the top twelve on a per capita basis. Its campuses, in Western Australia, are home to more than 13,000 students and 1,400 staff and hosting more than 1,850 overseas students from 70 countries. Industry links provide a solid base for generating research and consultancy income and its strong research performance is increasingly supported by industry and government, conducting outstanding research across a wide range of disciplines. In the Division of Science and Engineering and Health Sciences there are concentrated strengths in the areas of agricultural and veterinary biotechnology and bioinformatics, hydrometallurgy and ecosystem management and restoration. The Division of Arts encompasses the social sciences and humanities, law, information technology and business.
