Overview

qutbluebox pty ltd ('bluebox') is the technology transfer and commercialisation company for the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Founded in late 2006 to consolidate and develop commercial interactions with external communities of interest (including industry, government and the investment community), bluebox aims to bring the benefits of QUT's research discoveries to the global market via the identification, protection and commercialisation of intellectual property. As such, bluebox is responsible for managing the intellectual property assets of QUT, and works with the university's staff and students in the management and commercialisation of QUT's innovations through licensing agreements, start-up companies and other industry interactions.

bluebox is intrinsically involved in the biotechnology industry and development of relevant technology by its access to catchments within QUT such as the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Faculty of Health and Faculty of Science. bluebox actively seeks out invention disclosures from all related research disciplines within these catchments, evaluates their commercial potential and devises and funds intellectual property protection and commercialisation strategies. In addition, bluebox holds shares and board positions in a number of existing biotech start-up companies, and is responsible for the formation and management of new biotech companies via its commercialisation process.
