Mater Medical Research Institute
Overview
The MMRI is a world-class facility whose scientists conduct internationally recognised research. The independent research institute attracts leading scientists from around the world and significant peer-reviewed funding. MMRI's novel research projects have resulted in many unique discoveries which in turn have resulted in world-first innovations to health care.
One of the major strengths of the MMRI is its close working relationship with Mater Health Services. Co-located on the Mater Hospital campus in South Brisbane, the Institute focuses on translational research employing several double-trained clinician scientists. The MMRI's Clinical Trials Centre links medical research with clinical practice. Advancements in research have resulted in a phase one clinical trials for a new immunotherapy-based treatment for prostate cancer. Researchers are in pre-clinical stages for trails for breast cancer and multiple myeloma as well as bone marrow transplants for haematological cancer patients.
