Optiscan has 2 products in the market and a number of products under development.The Pentax ISC-1000 was launched in March 2006. It is a traditional endoscope with the Optiscan confocal microscope incorporated into it. It is used by gastroenterologists in over forty hospitals around the world. The Optiscan FIVE1 is a portable fluorescence endomicroscope specifically designed for in vivo investigation of animal tissues in all laboratory environments. The product was launched in January 2007 and over the past 15 months, 15 instruments have been installed globally.
Technology/IP
Optiscan has a strong suite of intellectual property (IP) that is constantly being expanded through further research and development. The company has many patents protecting its intellectual property in the two core areas of optical fibre based confocal microscope systems and miniaturised confocal microscope scanners. Optiscan's optical fibre confocal microscope patents will expire in July and August 2009, while the patents over the miniaturised scanning systems provide for significant extended protection through to 2019.
