Dr Richard Barker, well known to many as the former director general of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) who served on the Board and Executive Committee of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations and as a Council Member of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations, has been recently elected to the board of directors at Celgene.
Prior to his post leading the ABPI, Barker’s career included serving as chief executive of Chiron Diagnostics, general manager of IBM’s Worldwide Healthcare Solutions division and leader of McKinsey & Company’s European healthcare practice. Robert Hugin, Celgene’s chairman and CEO, said: “As we continue to expand our global reach, Dr Barker’s international perspective will enhance our ability to navigate through an increasingly dynamic healthcare landscape and provide patients access to our innovative therapies.”
AusBiotech delegates will hear Dr Barker’s valuable insights on the role of biotechs in the drug development universe as well as opportunities for early commercialisation of medical innovation through partnerships of difference, leveraging his unique perspective on international markets.
